Rex Richardson Endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project

Long Beach, CA —The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County Action Fund (PPAP) has announced their endorsement of Vice Mayor Rex Richardson in the race for Long Beach’s next Mayor.

“Now more than ever, we need Mayors who are committed to protecting abortion access and reproductive health rights, and Long Beach Vice Mayor Rex Richardson is that proven leader,” said Celinda M. Vázquez, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County (PPAP). “His commitment to expanding access to safe and legal abortion will help protect and expand reproductive freedom in Long Beach and across California.”

Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County Action Fund (PPAP) engages in legislative and electoral advocacy to improve the quality and affordability of reproductive and sexual health care and ensure continued access to safe, legal, and confidential abortion care.

“I’m proud to stand with Planned Parenthood and honored to be their chosen candidate for Long Beach Mayor,” stated Vice Mayor Richardson. “The right to abortion and reproductive freedom impacts everyone. The Supreme Court decision clarified the need for leaders with track records of advocacy for women’s, the LGBTQ+ community’s, and working families’ rights. I am grateful for Planned Parenthood’s faith in my leadership and commitment to protecting and expanding abortion access in our city, state, and country.”

Since launching his campaign on January 3, 2022, Vice Mayor Richardson built a broad coalition of support from the Democratic Party, Labor, Environmental, and Women’s Rights organizations, and community leaders from nearly every corner of Long Beach.

In the primary, Vice Mayor Richardson finished first, earning 44% of the vote and dominating in seven out of Long Beach’s nine council districts. His priorities include addressing homelessness, protecting neighborhood health and public safety, investing in opportunities for youth, and confronting the effects of climate change.
